Burn Smarter: How to Make Your Candle Last Longer

At SZND GOODS, we believe a good candle should last—and not just because you wish it would. The truth is, how you burn your candle can seriously affect its lifespan, scent throw, and overall performance. Here are the easiest ways to make sure your favorite jar stays lit (and lit well) for as long as possible.

First Burn = Most Important
Let your candle burn long enough to melt the wax evenly across the entire top surface. This prevents “tunneling,” where wax only melts down the center and wastes the rest of the candle. We usually categorize this at 3-4 hours, depending on the candle.

Trim That Wick
Always trim your wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn. A longer wick creates bigger flames, more soot, and uneven burning. You can trim the wick by taking a paper towel and clipping off the burn ends before your next burn. It's so easy to do, but people forget all the time.

Use a Candle Warmer
Want to skip the flame altogether? Use a candle warmer. Not only does it prevent soot, but it can make your candle last even longer—especially with our coconut soy wax blend. We've had a bunch of small businesses put them on warmers because it's safer for their business but they can also get a lot more out of their candle that way!

Keep It Lit—But Not Too Long
We love a long burn, but max out at 4 hours at a time to avoid overheating the jar or warping the scent. I won't be mad at you if you burn it for longer though. I totally get it. You just might need a new SZND GOODS candle before you know it!
